About Paediatric Orthopedics

Paediatric orthopedics is one of the specialized division in orthopedic surgery, that mainly deals with children’s orthopedics issues. This division is dedicated to treating the special needs of infants, children, teenagers and young adults with acute and chronic orthopedic conditions.

Children are not just small adults. As children are in growing phase, their response to injuries (fractures), bone infections, deformities and other orthopedic problems would be quite different from those in a full grown person. Moreover, they cannot answer medical questions and might not be cooperative in clinical examinations. With the advancement of medical science, nowadays, there are a lot of new technical skills, investigation modalities and treatment options to tackle these. It needs special training and a lot of involvement to work in this special wing of orthopedics. That is why, in developed countries, pediatric orthopedic surgeons dedicate themselves solely to this particular group of patients. It is quite obvious that a surgeon who attends and treats only children’s bone disorders has better knowledge as well as skills related to the subject, compared to a general Orthopaedic Surgeon who treats every kind of diseases affecting the skeletal system.
